Look for a clear finish line
A one-off project works around a bounded outcome: a new platform, a defined assessment or a specific workflow. The important questions are scope, dependencies and what acceptance will look like.
Identify the work that repeats
Ongoing support needs a different conversation. What must be reviewed, maintained or improved repeatedly? Who supplies content and approvals? A useful rhythm starts with an agreed baseline and responsibilities.
Keep the two stages distinct
Setup and management can belong together without being the same deliverable. Separate what establishes the foundation from what happens after it is accepted. Avoid choosing a recurring commitment before that distinction is clear.
